Cradle Mountain Canyons
Launch yourself off waterfalls, abseil down cliffs and shoot through nature's waterslides. Or take an easier option and float along seeing the world from the point of view of a platypus. Canyoning is a must do for lovers of adventure at Cradle Mountain.
Canyoning involves putting on a wetsuit and helmet and swimming, floating, walking and jumping your way through a section of river - like white water rafting without the raft. Cradle Mountain Canyons is the only business offering guided canyoning tours in Tasmania.
Two tours are available. The Dove Canyon is a full-on day out. It begins with an abseil into the canyon. From here to the take out, there are six significant waterfalls to get down. Participants jump or slide over the waterfalls and walk and float between the waterfalls. One of the highlights is the 'Laundry Shoot'. This amazing natural feature is a ten metre high natural waterslide that shoots you out from a cave and into a big open pool.
The Lost World Canyon is a more relaxed option, great for families and available to children aged eight and up. This three hour tour is all about finding a unique way to experience nature. We walk and float through a beautiful section of Dove River, with optional jumps and other challenges along the way to spice things up. You will also hear about the history of the area on this tour, including of the legendary first canyoner at Cradle Mountain, James 'Philosopher' Smith.
